Pictures evoke memories – conversations with seniors
A new way to support family members and caregivers. This addition to the BayernHistoryApp helps people activate memories and fosters conversations between generations, including with people living with or without dementia.
What does this topic area offer?
Through historical photographs, walks to familiar places like schools, churches and village squares, and recordings of local sounds or eyewitness accounts in regional dialect, the app creates an interactive entry into one’s own biography.
To support international caregivers, the app is being extended with versions in additional languages.
Project history
The pilot phase took place in 2025 in the district of Landsberg am Lech, funded by the Bavarian Dementia Fund and the Sparkasse Foundation Landsberg-Dießen.
Based on the pilot results, a Bavaria-wide model project is now running from July 2026 to July 2027, funded by Fonds Soziokultur and scientifically accompanied by Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.
