Eight collections in Bavaria's digital atlas

Topic Areas

The BayernHistoryApp currently bundles eight topic areas and is continuously growing. Each topic area is like its own collection in Bavaria's digital atlas, with its own editorial team, its own character and its own focuses.

The app as digital atlas and collection

The BayernHistoryApp is a digital atlas and at the same time a growing collection. It combines two ways into history: spatial orientation and the systematic indexing of content.

The topic areas form their own map layers offering different ways into history – by region, by period, by theme. At the same time they serve as structured registers in which content remains accessible and discoverable.

For existing archives, collections and projects the app provides a presentation and media platform with direct access through mobile use on location. Content is not only displayed, but also made tangible in its historical and spatial context.

How are topic areas structured?

Each topic area is like its own layer above the map — visible within the app as a "layer". Behind each topic area stands its own editorial team, its own character and its own focuses. The eight topic areas can be activated independently or combined.

Who runs the topic areas?

Topic areas are run either by dieKunstBauStelle e. V. itself or by institutional cooperation partners. Audio Trails are hosted by the Bavarian Adult Education Association (bvv) and Bavarian Broadcasting; Augsburg Railway Park is hosted by Bahnpark Augsburg gGmbH. Each topic area has its own funders and its own cooperation partners.

How can I host my own topic area?

Museums, educational institutions, associations and other organisations can run a topic area under their own banner — editorially self-managed, technically carried by the non-profit platform.
